Hello! My name is Maxine Ramey and I am the owner of A Stitch in Time in Franklin, NC. Originally from Atlanta, Ga., I have sewn most of my life. My mother made all my clothes, and she taught me how to read patterns and take care of our sewing machine. By the time I entered high school I was making all my own clothes. When I married my high school sweetheart we relocated to NC. My wedding gift from him was a sewing machine...what a man! Fast forward 15 years and add two little girls to the story. I made all their clothes and found a new love for heirloom sewing and smocking...so my husband built a building for me and I opened a fabric store with an Elna Sewing Machine dealership. After a few years with the shop, I felt my daughters were spending too much time in the office there, so I decided to sell in order to be at home with them. Sadly, the shop closed shortly thereafter.
Fast forward another 15 years to 2005 and my girls have grown up and ventured out on their own. Now what do I do with my time? Once again my husband built a building for another fabric shop...but this time the focus was on quilting as well as garment sewing. We outgrew that location and he built yet another building, which we expanded once more into the unit next door. God has blessed our little quilt shop and we are so grateful to Him.
On a personal note, I have two wonderful daughters. Becky lives in Franklin and is a Realtor. Bonnie is married to David Forkner and they live in Brevard, NC. Bonnie is a new fabric designer and her fabrics are scheduled to debut at Spring Quilt Market in 2013! I’m thankful most of all for the blessings of my family. The empty nest syndrome doesn’t set well with me, so I have two more girls in my home, Ashes and Marki (two retired show collies) and you just might see them when you visit my shop!
